Unbearable Desire - The Post Release Teaser

If you missed the tweet chat, never fear!  I still have a teaser, just for you.

#TeaserTuesday - Sometimes you've just gotta leap into the jaws of love and damn the consequences...

**
“Nothing has to happen tonight,” he murmured, clearly picking up on her sudden misgivings. “Or ever, if you don’t want it to. Maybe we should just be friends for a while—”
She could see that future. The sensible future. They would go back to their usual awkwardness with one another. Trying to ignore the attraction between them even as they tried to ignore their stupid, complicated past. Until all she could feel when she looked at him was the effort of trying not to feel everything he made her feel.
In some ways it would be so much easier. So much safer.
She didn’t want safe. She didn’t want another decade of pushing down emotions she didn’t want to feel.
She wanted this. She wanted now. She wanted risk and folly. She may not be a fighter, but she was brave. She was strong. And she wasn’t going to make the head choice at the expense of her heart anymore. Even if her heart was wrong and foolish and setting itself up for a vicious break. No. She wasn’t holding back anymore. She wanted to feel, even if it hurt.

The Validation Addiction

Today I'm over at the Ruby Blog, chatting about my non-writing life, overachiever complexes, and the need for validation versus the satisfaction of following a calling.  Come say howdy! :)

Unbearable Desire Release Day!!!

Happy Unbearable Desire Release Day!  The next shifter tale is out in the world!

And not only is it release day, it's also #TeaserTuesday!  So how's about one more peek inside?

Moira and Hugo have a complicated history... but there's no time like the present to work through decade-old emotion...

“I’m sorry,” he said. “Sorry that I gave you the wrong impression. Back in Canada.”

Her head snapped up then, brown eyes piercing. “Now? You want to discuss this now?”

He shrugged. “You just seem really irritated with me lately. I thought if we cleared the air—”

“The air is plenty clear. Crystal. Blue skies.” Her gaze landed back on his hand and he half expected the next swipe of antiseptic to be rough, but she was as gentle as ever.

“I’ve always felt bad that you stayed for me and I couldn’t—”

Her head snapped up again, hard enough to give her whiplash. “Excuse me? Stayed for you? Don’t be such an egotistical ass, Hugo. I love this pride. I stayed in spite of you.”

He blinked, taken aback by her vehemence. “I’m still sorry,” he said. “For leading you on before you got here. For giving you a false impression of what we had—”

“Was it false?”

“Ah…” He’d never seen her like this. Her words sharp and aggressive. Moira was gentle and nurturing. She healed people, but now her words were sharp enough to cut.

“Was it really false, Hugo? Was everything that happened in Canada really in my head or did you just get home and chicken out?”

“I don’t know what you—”

“Unrequited love is easy. There are never any flaws in unrequited love. You never have to work through an argument or make a hard call about putting another person above all others when you’re only worshipping from afar.”

“I hardly think—”

She didn’t even let him begin. “This grand passion of yours is childish.” She slapped a bandage over his cut, securing it with surgical tape, deft and gentle even as she railed at him. “Love, real love, isn’t always a fairy tale. It isn’t just adoration. It’s making the choice to put one person above all others—not just believing that they were put on earth for you to worship from afar.”

UNBEARABLE DESIRE - OUT NOW!!!!

Their history? Complicated. Their chemistry? Incendiary.

Lone Pine Pride, Book 4

Ten years ago, Moira shared one hot night with the bear-shifter of her dreams, but when she took him up on his offer to join him at the Lone Pine Pride, reality landed with a thud. She quickly realized that he was only looking for a momentary distraction, not a happily ever after.

She’s been trying to get over him ever since, but no other shifter has measured up to the big bad bear.

When Hugo met Moira in a Yukon bar, he poured out his unrequited love for his alpha’s mate as he pounded down drinks. While Hugo remembers telling Moira he was emotionally unavailable, apparently she only heard his need for sexual healing.

He’s always felt guilty for unintentionally leading her on. But now that the woman he thought he wanted is finally available, he’s beginning to wonder if the one he really needs is the woman with whom he shared one incendiary night—then let slip through his fingers.

Warning: This book contains a stubborn old bear, mixed messages, mixed-up emotions, and lots of mixed drinks. Before reading, remember that the best cure for a hangover is NOT “hair of the bear”.

Around the Blog-o-sphere

Good morning, darlings!  Today I have two (count them TWO!) special blog appearances as I count down the hours until UNBEARABLE DESIRE launches into the world.  Come visit me and you may find yourself taking home a free ebook!

Appearance the First: Beam Me Up Monday with Darynda Jones

Today I'm delighted to be visiting the unspeakably awesome and almost insultingly talented Darynda Jones at her blog.  I'm chatting about my leap-into-it approach to life and love and how it translated into me writing the second-chance-romance novella that became Unbearable Desire.

Check it out. (This one seems to be delayed this morning, but will hopefully be up later!)

Appearance the Second: Fantastic Fables Blog Event at Dark Faerie Tales Blog

I'm also thrilled to be a part of the Fantastic Fables Blog Event!  What would happen if my heroine Moira was dropped into a classic fairy tale?  Would her need to meddle keep those Disney princesses out of trouble?

UNBEARABLE DESIRE is Almost Here!!!!!!!!!

As evidenced by the exclamation points, I might be a touch excited.

It's only a couple days until Unbearable Desire hits ereaders and I have a deluge of information.  Ready?  Set?  Let's do this.

1) Fresh Fiction reviewed UNBEARABLE DESIRE!  Twice!  You can check out their take on LPP#4 here and here.

2) Unbearable Desire is a continuation of the Lone Pine Pride series in bite-sized novella form, but if you are getting amped for the August release of TANGLING WITH THE TIGER (LPP#5 - full meal rather than appetizer sized) and if you are of a Reviewerly Persuasion, you can get it now on NetGalley.

3) I will be appearing on the Interwebz at various locations over the next couple weeks to chat about UD & all things LPP (and maybe give away a few books), so you can look for me at:

Come celebrate with me! And happy reading!

Unbearable Teasers - One Week to Go!

Happy #TeaserTuesday!!! In one week, Hugo and Moira will be out in the world in UNBEARABLE DESIRE (Lone Pine Pride #4), but in the mean time they're getting to know one another...

**

“The first step toward moving on is accepting that something needs to change.”

“Something like that.” Except he wasn’t here to move on. He was here to come to terms with the new emotional landscape, not to attempt to change it. Hugo lifted his glass for another draught of beer.

“You know what the best way to get over someone is? Get under someone new.”

He choked on his beer, spluttering all over the table. “Excuse me?”

She smiled, dimples flashing with deceptive innocence. She looked all soft and sweet and then—had she actually just propositioned him? Right after he’d told he was in love with someone else?

“You’re never going to get over her if you won’t let yourself look at anyone else.”

“I’m never going to get over her.”

“Not with that attitude, you’re not.”

He didn’t want to get over her. Lucienne was the One. If he couldn’t be with her, he was going to be alone. The matter of his heart had been decided long ago. Game over.

But that didn’t mean he had to be celibate. The little she-bear—Moira—sat across from him, her brown eyes twinkling with undisguised invitation—then she smiled and rocked back on the bench. “Never mind. You’re not ready for that yet, that’s fine. We’ll just be friends, and friends don’t let friends drink alone. We’re going to need another glass.” She eyed the nearly drained pitcher at his elbow. “And another pitcher.”

Teaser Tuesday - 2 Weeks and Counting!

It's #TeaserTuesday - and only two short weeks until Unbearable Desire, my new Lone Pine Pride novella releases!  Meet Moira and Hugo.  When an immovable object meets and irresistible force...

**

He sprawled in a wooden booth in the back of the bar, isolated from the locals with a battered duffle occupying the bench opposite him and a partially drained pitcher of beer at his elbow. He didn’t look up from the beer he was contemplating with an impressively dour expression.
Grouchy old bear.

Moira almost smiled. He was massive, bearded and giving off don’t-fuck-with-me vibes that kept the entire population of the bar from coming within five feet of him as effectively as a force field.
Moira marched right through the crowd, looking neither left nor right, shoved his duffle to the side and plopped onto the seat opposite him.

“Hi.”

He lifted his head slowly, as if giving her time to retreat before his gaze made it all the way up to hers. Moira didn’t even flinch. His eyes—a lovely chocolaty brown, she observed—showed no reaction whatsoever to a tiny woman with the scent of a bear shifter dropping into the other seat at his table and saying hello. His barrel-like chest lifted on a prolonged sigh and his gaze skidded away, behind her. “Look…”

“Oh, I know,” she cut him off before he could brush her off. “You’re depressed and tragic and wallowing in self-pity and that sort of thing is really better done in solitude so you’d like me to take myself off to the bar to be hit on by the little men and leave you to your misery.” She smiled brightly. “I’m just not going to do that.”
