Guest Author: Sierra Dean

Ladies and gentlemen, please help me welcome debut urban-fantasy scribe Sierra Dean to the blog. Sierra's shiny new release has just hit the shelves and she's agreed to take a moment during her busy debut release week to be interrogated by yours truly. WELCOME SIERRA!

1. The heroine of your urban fantasy, Something Secret This Way Comes is an uber-badass bounty hunter. Given a choice between a katana, a .45 and a bazooka, which weapon would she reach for?

She's got divided loyalties on this front. Her standard weapon of choice is a 9mm handgun (she goes between a SIG and a Glock), but she does have a lovely Japanese katana that she's been known to use to her advantage from time to time, and definitely becomes a go-to weapon for her.

2. As Something Secret is your debut release, what inspired you to take up the pen? How long have you been at this writing stuff? Who do you want to be when you grow up?

I started writing at a really young age, and started telling stories long before that. I made my first effort to write a book (a murder mystery/police drama called Blood Love) at the tender age of 12. I wish I knew where it was. It's probably dreadful, but ever since then I've been putting pen to paper and churning out stories. I love writing, and it's the only thing I've always wanted to do. That said, "when I grow up" I want to be a professor of Russian History at Standford University. I'm currently working on an honors degree in History, and plan to do my Masters in Russian History with a focus on the Jewish experience in Russia. Definitely not the same as writing urban fantasy, but I'll probably still be doing the writing thing until I die.

3. Secret's caught between two men (damn, I love a good love triangle) - in a cage match between her two beaus, who would come out on top?

Lucas, absolutely. He's the werewolf king and he also wouldn't let personal feelings conflict with doing whatever it takes to come out on top. Desmond seems colder, but he's got a tender heart, and his loyalty to Lucas would prevent him from taking down his best friend and Alpha.

4. If you had to pick three desert island books, which ones would you take with you?

Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy; Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen; and Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. They're my three favorite books of all time, and ones I can re-read endlessly without getting sick of them. I know, I feel bad for picking no UF or PNR titles, but there are so few I would be able to re-read on a loop! My UF/PNR desert island picks: Kelley Armstrong's Bitten, Laurell K Hamilton's Guilty Pleasures and Charlaine Harris's Dead to the World (Sookie #4).

5. What's next for you? Are there more Secret McQueen books in the works?

Are there EVER! The prequel novella The Secret Guide to Dating Monsters comes out July 19. Book Two, A Bloody Good Secret is due out in September, and there will be a Christmas novella called Secret Santa due out in late November. I'm already busy at work on Secret McQueen book three and the first one only just released this week!

Congrats on your many upcoming releases and best wishes with the Secret series! Here's a peek at Sierra's debut release:

Some secrets are dangerous. This Secret is deadly.

For Secret McQueen, her life feels like the punch line for a terrible joke. Abandoned at birth by her werewolf mother, hired as a teen by the vampire council of New York City to kill rogues, Secret is a part of both worlds, but belongs to neither. At twenty-two, she has carved out as close to a normal life as a bounty hunter can.

When an enemy from her past returns with her death on his mind, she is forced to call on every ounce of her mixed heritage to save herself—and everyone else in the city she calls home. As if the fate of the world wasn't enough to deal with, there's Lucas Rain, King of the East Coast werewolves, who seems to believe he and Secret are fated to be together. Too bad Secret also feels a connection with Desmond, Lucas's second-in-command…

Warning: This book contains a sarcastic, kick-ass bounty hunter; a metaphysical love triangle with two sexy werewolves; a demanding vampire council; and a spicy seasoning of sex and violence.

Love this idea! :) Can't wait to read it.

Question - what motivated you to write this book? It looks great, but what is the thought behind it?

:) Love to find out more...

Kaye - I've been reading PNR and UF for a long time, so it sort of felt like a "write what you know" thing. But I wanted to make the vampires and werewolves my own, and really establish a new world. I also wanted a heroine who was special, but conflicted and had a real humanity to her. And this was what I ended up with!

(as an aside, your book was my first ever purchase on my Kindle)

Hope you guys enjoy!

I'm sad my original comment was lost. But now I have an excuse to come back and gush about how much love I have for Secret. She kept my brain well occupied while my body died a little bit on the stair climber last night. I'm so in love and can't wait to read more!!

Phooey, I probably posted something brilliant or maybe not because the last few days have been nuts! Anyway, I really want to read this book. I have been following the tour all over the web. I even bookmarked Sierra Dean's homepage so that I wouldn't miss a tour stop :) Boy, that's weird to admit.
