DAY SIX QUESTION: Yesterday we talked about heroic appearances (and dude, I loved reading all of your comments - so cool to see all the different takes on what makes a hero attractive!) and it got me thinking about what a man does. Tyler, the hero of Serengeti Sunrise, is a mechanic. Gotta love a man who knows his way around an engine block - but from cowboys to firefighters, Fortune 500 CEOs to professional athletes, knights to special forces, there are a lot of studly professions out there and our favorite romance heroes know how to make them look good. So here's today's question: What is your favorite (or the most memorable) heroic occupation?

Raphael from Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series is the most memorable for me. Who can forget an archangel?
As for my favorite...I gotta go back to Chase from Victoria Dahl's Leada Me On. He blows things up for a living...that's freakin' hot! Or Lachlain MacRieve from Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series because I'm kind of a sucker for a King (those dreams of becoming a princess just won't go away!).
Lately, I seem to be reading alot of books with cowboys, like the McKay's and West's in the Rough Rider series. I seem to go in phases with hero types ;)

I love the power,confidence and alpha tendencies of a cop or military hero. And if you make them a shifter on top of that, I am lost, lol. Nalini's shifter's I would throw into this catagory, and I simply love all her men.

Dukes are my favorite, even though they're usually written as though they do nothing but go to their clubs and do rakish things before being changed by the love of good women :) I also love warriors in any time period - SEALs, CIA agents, warrior-lords, etc.
I've never figured out why I'm attracted to alpha males with killing skills in the books and skinny geeks with coding skills in real life, but given that I live in Silicon Valley rather than a medieval warzone, perhaps I'm just going with what's available ;)
It has to be unique in some way to be memorable. Two heroes who come to mind from Christmas novellas: 1. Ian in Emily Bryan's "My Lady Below Stairs." Makes a stablemaster hero(and the bastard daughter of an earl heroine) entertaining. 2. William White in Courtney Milan's "This Wicked Gift." One doesn't normally think about the viscount's clerks, but now I do.
I'm a sucker for a private detective...like Jackson Holt in Moira Roger's Crux...love him:)
Lately, I have really enjoyed cop stories. I do, however, have a soft spot for highlanders. Thanks for the giveaway.

I like warriors, but the qualities the hero has are more important to me than his occupation.
I have to agree with Kali about Raphael being the most memorable.
